As Chair of Community for Excellent Public Schools (CEPS), I am honored to be part of a group that has successfully advocated to preserve and protect Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUD) schools for more than a decade. In CEPS’s ten years, California has cut its funding to SMMUSD schools in an amount equal to 16% of the overall budget, while CEPS has helped increase local funding by an additional 12% of the total budget.
Through CEPS’ advocacy we have been able to insure $128 million in committed local support over the past 10 years – approximately $25 million each year. However, with yet another round of cuts to education looming on the horizon from Sacramento, our schools need your help now more than ever!
The November 6th election may be one of the most important in decades for the future of public education in our community. We have the opportunity to elect true education champions to the Santa Monica City Council, the SMMUSD Board of Education and California’s 50thAssembly, as well as support critically important measures that will avert a crisis in Sacramento, and strengthen our aging school facilities locally.
First, please join CEPS and help me advocate for excellent public education, the membership fee is only $40. You can become a member by clicking here.
Second, please make a donation to our campaign fund to send out mailers for CEPS endorsed candidates. Your generous contribution TODAY could protect public education for a generation. 100 contributions of $100 will allow us to send one mailer to local voters. Click here to donate.
Third, please share this email with your friends and networks to spread the word about this important organization. You can also, like us on Facebook.
I hope that you will join me in preserving and protecting the excellent public schools that our community deserves and expects. Please make a generous donation today! We need to raise $25,000 by the beginning of October to meet our goal of informing voters about this critical election.
Yours for excellent public schools,
